The work

1

The brief

Description

Retail centres compete for attention, and the quickest way to win it is scale. This brief called for an oversized, instantly readable hero piece to anchor a promotion — something shoppers would notice from the far end of a concourse, walk over to, and photograph. It needed to be big, friendly, and tough enough to live among foot traffic for weeks.

2

What we made

Description

We carved and assembled the form in polystyrene, building it up in sections to the size the space called for, then sealed and hand-finished it to a hard, knock-resistant shell. The finish matters as much as the shape — a giant build in a mall gets touched, leaned on, and bumped, so the surface has to take it. Everything was produced in our workshop and assembled ready to install.

3

The craft

Description

Holding a smooth, even curve across a piece this big — and a finish tough enough to take being touched and bumped all day.

4

The outcome

Description

Installed on site as the centrepiece of the promotion, and — like most of our 3D builds — made to be packed down and brought back out again rather than used once and binned.
