The work

1

The brief

Description

Some work can only be done one way. This was heritage detailing that had to be carried out by hand, in the traditional manner, to sit convincingly alongside work that came before it — no shortcuts, no modern substitutes that would give the game away up close.

2

What we made

Description

We hand-applied gold leaf and signwriting using the same methods that have been used for well over a century. There’s no machine for this; it’s brush, size, leaf, and a steady hand. Every line and every gilded surface was laid by eye, the way it would have been when the original was made.

3

The craft

Description

Gold leaf is unforgiving — it has to be right the first time. This is the craft Osmand was built on, and the part that can’t be faked.

4

The outcome

Description

Completed entirely by hand and finished to sit seamlessly against the original — heritage work done the way heritage work should be.
